Mother's Day

We survived another Mother's Day...survival being the "key" word.

I told myself that this mothers day - I would focus on my "Mothers" (brilliant idea - I know). My own mom and my mother-in-law. I would send them a nice gift. I would thank my mother in law for raising six kids - one of which I would marry. I would thank my own mother for working hard and raising 5 kids - while juggling speech pathology at the various elementary schools around town (still have no idea how she managed to balance it all??) Both women have a passion for education and reading. Both women have touched many lives around them.

I told this to my sister on Thursday - about noon. Told her that I was going to focus on someone else instead of myself. The day and time are critical. I had tried to call my mom to chat, but she didn't answer her phone. My father called about an hour later to say that my mom was in the ER. We found out later that night that she had a perforated ulcer. This was not good. However, in terms of my mothers day plans - it was :) It offered a detour from the usual mothers day let down and allowed Matt and I to focus on my mom. We hauled the kids down Saturday night and I took Laina and Indy to see her Sunday morning. Laina read two books to her and Indy read a passage from one of the books he was currently reading. Laina entertained her with some dancing and singing. We didn't need to bring flowers - there were like 8 dozen roses there...all from my dad (Laina had to snag a few on her way out).

Kathy (mother) is doing much better - she was able to spend mother's day entertaining random church visitors dressed in a hospital gown with a tube coming out of her nose - gotta love it. My mothers day card had one line - "this is SO way better than a parasite!" (inside wannabe weight loss joke).

AND speaking of jokes, the eldest in the family sent a few out and they made my day/weekend. A few of my fave's:

Okay Doc, so what you’re telling me is my Dad mixes El Pato, Spicy V8 and sliced jalapenos in a blender and drinks it while my mother drinks Crystal Light and SHE is the one with the hole in her stomach?

(Jace) Don’t worry Mom, I promise you will live to see me get married.

Happy Mother’s Day! We brought Mexican food! (
liquid diet for 3 more weeks)

The real question that needs to be asked is how many illegal aliens did she have to wait behind at the emergency room? (was that poor taste? sorry)

And on that note - I end my Mothers Day tribute (I purposely left my camera at home so as not to be tempted to take a picture of her when we "surprised" her at the hospital room - and as a result I missed out on what could have been the best photo shoot ever with Trumpy, David's circus-dog).

I hope your Mom's okay!! I wish you would have brought your camera. The circus dog sounds funny and weird.

I went with my mom and Ashley to see her, even though the RS said no visitors {we like to think we are an exception to the rule!} She looked good-we made a lap around the halls with her & chatted for a minute. I told her that when I was about 10 I planned my funeral and assigned her to speak {I know-morbid}. I still expect her to speak, so she can't be skipping out until after I do! Grateful she is doing better! We sure love her!

FarFam - given the fact that your mom had to sit ALONE on Sunday - she had better check in on her partner!

Cristin - Trumpy is a basset hound/lab mix...use your imagination...yes...it's that bad
